Three race lengths in this event all quite long, along the northern lakes of the Muskoka region, as well as the entire North and South Muskoka River Systems.
The longest of the three is the Coureur des Bois which runs 225 KM staged over two days. The first day starts at 7AM in Whitney and ends at Oxtongue Lake with a mandatory overnight stay. On its second day this course restarts 7AM at Dwight beach on Lake of Bays with paddlers joining up with the other two race courses.
The two shorter courses start on the Saturday also at 7 AM but from River Mill Park in Hunstville with the 90 KM (Sprint) ending in Bracebridge while the 130 KM (Classic) course continues on to Port Sydney and then back to Hunstville.
In all three race courses the teams are completely self-supported carrying all gear with no outside assistance. Other technical challenges are many and include long distances, lake and river navigation, deep water, fog and night paddling. There are many portages, no white-water although head winds and waves on the lakes are common. Supplied tracking devices are mandatory All three of the courses in this event are suitable for experienced paddlers.
This event is very well organized and a great challenge.
